| SOLAR POTTING SHED |

During the winter of 1999-2000 my wife and I talked about having a place to pot, transplant, and start plants and flowers
- somewhere that the tender little shoots could be protected from the elements but still receive a generous amount of warmth and sunlight.
One afternoon while browsing in a
Menard's store we found a brochure from
Handy Home Products. And what to our wondering eyes should appear but a
spiffy little solar shed so dear. In mid-summer 2000 we ordered the building and
three weeks later it arrived, all pre-cut and ready to assemble.
It took two to three weeks to study the instructions, inventory all the
materials, prepare and level the site, build a floor, and then finally muster the courage
and self confidence to begin the actual construction. I started the third week of
September and by mid-October had it enclosed, caulked, shingled, and painted.
This shed is 10 feet wide, 12 feet long and as
you can see in the pictures below, has a dutch/split door and four large windows on one side of the roof. The standard size for this kit is an 8'X8' building with options to add 4 foot sections.
The floor is not part of the kit and can be purchased separately, or be built from scratch as I did. Tar paper, shingles, and roof drip edge must be
purchased separately.
The encasement window on the back wall does not come with the building. The one I put in was removed from the dining area wall in our house and
replaced by sliding glass doors providing access to the deck.
I put 3 1/2 inches of insulation in the ceiling and side walls and then covered them with paneling. The 3/4" plywood floor is covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting.
This little "3-season room" is complete with electricity, cable TV, and telephone.
